  • E-mail Customization - Text and template files allow you to completely customize all e-mail notifications such as registration confirmations, bid confirmation, outbid notices, and end-of-auction notices, etc.

  • E-mail Address Protection - Define how your site displays user e-mail addresses to prevent "harvesting". Also define whether or not to make the e-mail address a hypertext link invoking the browser mail program, internal mail forms accessible only by registered users, or none at all.

  • Fee Profiles - Assign custom listing fee and/or commission profiles to specific users!

  • Feedback System - Users can leave detailed feedback on other users including a "Positive", "Negative" and "Undecided" rating.

  • Fees and Commissions - Configuration files allow you to define how fees and commissions are charged. Charge flat fees, percentages, or use schedules to determine amounts charged or use combinations of all of the above!

  • HTML Customization - Text and template files allow you to customize your site, giving it a unique and uniform "look and feel." Templates also give you the ability to create dynamic HTML pages.   • Personal Shopper System - Users can sign up to use the Personal Shopper system to receive daily e-mail updates of new items added to the categories they choose!

  • Private Rooms - Assign rooms to your users where they can hold their own private auction!

  • Proxy Bidding System - You can configure your site to use a Proxy bidding system where users place a maximum bid and let the computer bid on their behalf until they win or that maximum bid is reached.

  • Registration Control - Using a "reject" list, you can specify who cannot register at your site by domain, e-mail, IP address, or name. An "Allow" list permits selected users from a rejected domain to register.

  • Reporting - Auctioneer allows you to run reports that let you know the status of your site quickly and conveniently. An SQL-based report option allows you to run customized queries against your databases to extract customized results as well.

  • Reserve Price Auctions - Whether or not to allow reserve price auctions.

  • Run multiple sites with one software package* - Multiple sites can share the same software! You can even run "sub" or "feeder" sites off of your main site!

  • Search - Search module allows users to find items fast!

  • Security - Auctioneer supports secure transmission protocols allowing you to offer secure pages to your users.

  • Specialized listing pages - New, Starting Today, Ending Today, Featured, and even a Mega List (all items) are generated by the software for use at your site.

  • Starting Price Control - This option allows you to specify at what price all listings will start. If this option is not used, the seller specifies at what price the bidding will begin. You can also configure your system to require a minimum starting price.

  • Static Bidding System - With a static bidding system, the user places the max they are willing to pay and the system records the bid "as-is".

  • Unlimited Listings - No limit on the number of active listings or categories!

  • Unlimited Users - No limit on the number of registered users!

  • User Access Control - Seller Only, Buyer Only, or Full Access. Control the type of access users have to your site!

  • User Management - Complete access to user information and account status

Web Board Features:

  • Microsoft Database Support -- NEW!

    By integrating a Microsoft Data Engine (MSDE) database, WebBoard becomes enterprise level out-of-the-box. The MSDE database holds up to two gigabytes of data, eliminating the need for upsizing. For those who prefer to use Microsoft SQL Server version 6.5 or 7.0, WebBoard provides tools for seamless integration with a SQL Server database. The administration control panel can be installed on any Windows 95/98 or Windows NT machine for full server control across the Internet or local LAN.

  • Redundancy -- NEW!

    Run WebBoard on several computers to provide uninterrupted operation in the event of a system problem or to distribute the load on a busy site. Configuring everything to run together is simple and straightforward.

  • External server for graphic images -- Improved

    Sites that use large graphic images can now serve graphics from an external server, taking some of the load off WebBoard.

  • Performance -- Improved

    WebBoard is faster. A new architecture means performance will be increased in nearly all areas.

  • Support for up to 255 boards and unlimited users -- Improved

    Administrators can setup 255 completely separate boards and unlimited users with only one copy of WebBoard running. Each board can have its own WebBoard scheme for a custom look and feel. Conferences organize a board into subject areas.

  • Web servers—built-in and external -- Improved

    WebBoard’s built-in web server requires no configuration or special maintenance. It supports all WebBoard features, including all three security modes, file attachments, and the JavaScript used for chat and administration wizards. To tie into existing user databases for authentication, to use WebBoard behind a firewall, or to support SSL, an external server can be added as a gateway to WebBoard’s built-in server. Install the external web server on the same or a different computer from WebBoard.

  • Customization WebBoard Open Scripting -- NEW!

    Open Scripting, the new object-based scripting interface, lets administrators do custom authentication, preprocess form data, and run scripts from HTML pages. Use any popular scripting language to replace, alter, or enhance built-in WebBoard operations. For example, override authentication with another method, alter and reject the contents of posted forms, or extend the logic of WebBoard’s HTML files. Accompanying sample scripts demonstrate how to put scripting to work.

  • Schemes for page customization -- NEW!

    Change the entire look of a board by choosing from an assortment of profes-sionally designed schemes or by creating new ones. Further customization comes from editing the HTML pages that provide WebBoard’s interface. WebBoard also has a number of special text-handling tags for including dynamic information about WebBoard.

  • Additional user profile fields -- NEW!

    Five customizable user profile fields can now be added to the user profile page to collect customer data from users.

  • International support -- Improved

    WebBoard can be localized for international use. WebBoard's hard-coded text strings are now fully customizable on a per board basis.


    Discussion Forums Administration

  • Adding multiple administrators -- NEW!

    Full administrator privileges can be assigned to individual users for installations requiring multiple administrators.

  • Administrative privileges -- Improved

    WebBoard supports three levels of users with varying administrative privileges. Each level performs different tasks and is essential in delegating the upkeep of WebBoard.

  • Administrator email support -- Improved

    Administrators can now send direct email to board managers, conference moderators, users on all discussion boards, users on a specific


    Discussion board, and users of private conferences.

  • Enhanced statistical reporting -- Improved

    Increased statistical data such as mailing list and newsgroup activity are now available for managers and administrators, on a per board basis.
    New statistics include stats on mailing list messages and mailing list subscribers, current board users, and current board messages and activity.
    A new security feature will limit who sees this information.

  • External server support -- Improved

    With the new ISAPI Proxy DLL, WebBoard supports external Web servers running as gateways. WebBoard can tie into existing user databases for authentication, can be used behind a firewall, and can now support SSL.

  • Flexibility to move conferences, topics, and messages -- NEW!

    Administrators can move conferences between boards or move messages among conferences on the same board.

  • Logging -- Improved

    Logs provide important information on activity and are helpful in troubleshooting problems. On a site-wide basis WebBoard logs SMTP activity, JavaScript chat, uploads, errors, and site activity. It also produces an installation log. On an individual board basis, WebBoard logs all HTTP requests to the board. Managers and administrators can download a zipped copy of the HTTP log, making it possible to analyze the current board traffic remotely. The Log cycling button makes it easy to cycle old logs and create new ones automatically.

  • Mailing list management -- NEW!

    WebBoard’s new mailing list management tools lets administrators see who’s signed up for each mailing list on the site. They can subscribe users to mailing lists, remove users from mailing lists, see which mailing lists a given user is subscribed to, and make changes to the user’s subscriptions.
    Per-board authentication and email address verification Authentication is set on a per board basis rather than for the entire WebBoard site. WebBoard has built-in support for three types of authentication: cookie authentication, basic authentication, or no authentication. Using email address verification with cookie authentication ensures that users provide a legitimate email address. Sample scripts demonstrate how to bypass WebBoard’s built-in authentication and use the object-based scripting feature to authenticate from a text file or ODBC data source or with an NT user database.

  • Robot.txt support -- NEW!

    Internet search robots can be excluded from WebBoard sites with robots.txt support.

  • Administrator Online Help -- NEW!

    Online help for administrators, managers, and moderators provides step-by- step procedures for most administrative tasks.

  • Discussion Forums Use Attention messaging -- NEW!

    Users can post messages to another user’s attention with new Attention messaging. Each user has an easily maintained address book.
    WebBoard marks messages posted to the user’s attention, so that users can see immediately what’s especially for them or they can choose to view an exclusive list of their Attention messages. Messages sent to someone’s attention are still visible to other conference members.

  • Automatic read message-marking feature -- Improved

    WebBoard can mark messages as read automatically upon log off. Or messages can remain marked as new until the user decides to mark them read.

  • Email participation

    With WebBoard’s mailing list capabilities, registered users can participate in conferences via email. After subscribing to conference mailing lists, a user receives all messages posted to the conference and responds or posts new topics, all via email. For users who prefer to participate through a browser but want to know about new messages without logging on, WebBoard can send email notification of conferences with newmessages once a day. The built-in SMTP mail server handles the incoming mail for WebBoard’s mailing list feature. It prevents unregistered or unauthorized users from posting messages by email and bounces the messages back to the sender (if desired). WebBoard requires an external SMTP server for handling outgoing mail.

  • IRC and JavaScript chat -- Improved

    WebBoard provides interactive, real-time conversations with the choice of true Internet Relay Chat (IRC) or WebBoard’s own JavaScript chat.
    Fully integrated into WebBoard, ConferenceRoom from WebMaster provides the IRC chat, with a chat server supporting up to 1,000 simultaneous users. WebBoard includes a Java client for participating in IRC chat or users can participate with other IRC clients such as Pirch.
    The JavaScript chat is limited in its number of users, but supports a wide range of options such as whispering, custom text, active links, and paging. With JavaScript chat Chat Spots can be used to display company logos, ads, or brief messages within the chat dialog.

  • Message search feature -- Improved

    WebBoard includes a search engine for finding specific text in message topics and message bodies, or finding messages by a specific author.
    Searches can be limited by conference or date, or sorted in a variety of ways including by weight. Full-text searches make finding specific information even faster.

  • NNTP support -- NEW!

    Registered users can read and post messages through their newsreaders. For those who frequent newsgroups, this makes participating in WebBoard conferences comfortable and familiar.

  • Paging and broadcast messages

    Users can page other logged in users, send private messages or invite the user to join a chat. The WebBoard administrator can broadcast a message to logged in users on all boards, for example, to warn of an impending system shut down. Board managers can broadcast to their board users.
